Dental Bridges
Tigard, OR

Here at Total Health Dental in Tigard, OR, we know how important your smile is to you. When you lose a tooth or several teeth, it can make your life much more difficult. It becomes harder to chew your favorite foods, it can affect your speech, it can even make you less likely to smile! We always want you to smile, which is why we offer so many great tooth replacement options. Fixed dental bridges are one of the most popular tooth replacement options because it’s a fast procedure that is cost-effective and permanent.

What is a fixed dental bridge?

Traditional fixed dental bridges are made of metal and porcelain, and sometimes a ceramic material like zirconia. They are made to look and act just like your real teeth. Traditional dental bridges can replace a single tooth or several consecutive missing teeth. Bridges are placed on existing healthy teeth that are modified to fit the bridge. Bridges can also make use of surgically placed dental implants that act as anchors in your mouth.

Reasons For Choosing a Fixed Bridge

There are plenty of reasons to choose a fixed dental bridge to restore your smile, including:
•  Restore your ability to eat and speak as your did before tooth loss
•  Give you your beautiful smile back
•  Maintain the structure and shape of your face
•  Fill in the space left by teeth that have been lost or extracted
•  Ensure the health of remain teeth by holding them in position
•  To upgrade from a removable tooth replacement option like a denture

Getting Your Fixed Bridge

It takes two trips to our office to have a fixed dental bridge placed. We start the first visit by ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure by applying a local anesthetic to the area that we will be working on in your mouth. We will take an impression of the area that will receive the bridge and begin preparing the anchor teeth to receive the bridge. Preparing your teeth to act as abutments means that we will be shaving some of the outer layers of enamel off of your teeth so that the bridge can fit over the top of them. This is similar to the way we prepare teeth to receive crowns. Once your teeth have been prepared to receive the bridge, we will place a temporary dental bridge onto them, which will conclude your first visit.

It will be time for your second appointment after a few weeks, during which time we will have the bridge crafted at our dental lab. We will remove the temporary bridge from your teeth and place the permanent one using a special, long-lasting dental adhesive.

Caring For Your Dental Bridge

Dental bridges are made to last, but even with great oral hygiene routines, there is a chance that they will need to be repaired or replaced. For this reason we always recommend staying current on your bi-annual checkups and examinations. During these appointments we can make sure that your teeth and prosthetics look great and will continue working hard for you.
